Resignations and such things

Hypothetical question: do you think it's professional to turn in a resignation to your boss by PHONE?!? I don't think so. Totally unprofessional, if you ask me. Especially if said boss is out on vacation and employee calls boss to turn in their notice. Pathetic. That's all I can say.
